Karios Moment for Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Building
The Ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. Chronos refers to chronological or sequential time. Karios relates to a proper or opportune time for action. (Thank you Wikipedia)
There is an interesting convergence of milestones in my purview, some offering hope and others, despair. The good news is organizations and institutions are starting to understand the importance of entrepreneurial ecosystem building. The bad news is, for some of the practitioners, it is too little, too late.
I am inspired to see there is an uptick (albeit small) in entrepreneurship, while the subject is often spoken about, the actual numbers have been flat for far too long (2020 Kauffman Indicators). It is encouraging to see more attention paid to historically excluded founders and the need for support including, but not simply around funding. Advocacy efforts including America’s New Business Plan and Right to Start have amplified awareness and visibility politically. “Ecosystem building” is a buzzword and efforts are increasing from universities to government agencies all the way up to the White House. There have been greater movements in identifying and skilling up ecosystem builders and their efforts from non-profits, to the classroom, to the Main Streets of our communities.
